Going
Global: Boosting the Economic Future of Greater Miami
June
19, 2012
Coral Gables, Florida
On Tuesday, June 19, the
Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase will host the Global Cities
Initiative forum at the Newman Alumni Center, on the campus of the University
of Miami. This forum will provide context on the position of the Miami
metropolitan area in the global marketplace, highlight opportunities to
strengthen the region’s global economic competitiveness, and offer insight
into how state and metro leaders can work together and with international
partners to expand global trade and enhance the prosperity of the
region. Attendees will include a select group of leaders from the
private, public, and philanthropic sectors in the Miami metropolitan
area.
Launched this past fall, the
Global Cities Initiative is a five-year effort aimed at helping U.S. city and
metropolitan leaders become more globally fluent by providing an in-depth and
data-driven look at their regional standing on crucial global economic
measures, highlighting best policy and practice innovations from around the
world, and creating an international network of leaders who ultimately trade
and grow together. Chaired by Richard M. Daley, the former mayor of
Chicago, the Global Cities Initiative is a joint project of the Brookings
Metropolitan Policy Program and JPMorgan Chase.
