TARIFA DE CARGOS CAMBIA: Comenzando el 1ro de septiembre del 2009, se efectuaran cambios en ciertos cargos por licencias de conducir y vehículos motorizados. Los nuevos cargos básicos fueron establecidos por la Legislatura de la Florida como parte del proceso de desarrollo del presupuesto estatal. Una combinación de información específica a cada vehículo se usa para determinar los cargos de registración. Dicha información incluye el uso, el tipo de placa y el código de su clasificación. LA FLORIDA INAGURA REGISTRO DE DONANTES DE ORGANOS Y TEJIDOS: DHSMV, junto a instituciones como la Agencia de la Administración del Cuidado de la Salud (AHCA) y Donate Life Florida anunciaron el establecimiento del Registro de Donantes de Órganos y Tejidos Joshua Abbott. El nuevo registro electrónico en Internet es accesible en www.DonateLifeFlorida.org y le permite a los interesados en hacerlo (hasta los que viven fuera de la Florida) designarse como donantes de órganos, tejidos y ojos.

INFORMACIÓN CLAVE PARA PADRES DE CONDUCTORES ADOLESCENTES: El Departamento de Seguridad en Carreteras y Vehículos Motorizados ha creado una sección para padres en su sitio en Internet para adolescentes www.flhsmv.gov/teens. El nuevo, y al mismo tiempo mejorado, sitio Web ahora le proporciona a los padres información útil que los ayuda a enseñarle a sus adolescente a ser conductores seguros. LA CAMPAÑA “Reúna, Venga, Obtenga” CONTINUA SU PROGRESO: El primero de enero del 2010, el Departamento comenzara a emitir licencias de conducir y tarjetas de identificación que cumplirán con las nuevas normas federales. Aunque la Florida ya tiene uno de los procesos de emisión y credenciales más seguros, estos cambios complementaran nuestros esfuerzos de minimizar el fraude y robo de identidad.
El Departamento esta implementando una extensa campaña de información publica titulada “Reúna, Venga, Obtenga” para asegurar que nuestros miembros, socios, partes interesadas y el público estén informados de cómo estos nuevos requisitos los afectaran. Recientemente completamos la primera fase de la campaña la cual estaba enfocada a educar a nuestros miembros, al personal de las oficinas condales de recaudadores de impuestos, siendo ellos los que tienen contacto directo diariamente con nuestros clientes.
Durante las próximas semanas estaremos enfocados en proveerles a nuestros asociados en este esfuerzo – tal como agencias de la ley – información mediante afiches, folletos y otros materiales que pueden ser impresos para distribuir mediante el sitio Web promocional www.PromoteGatherGoGet.com. La campaña incluirá correspondencia electrónica informativa que nos ayudara a promover los sitios Web públicos y los de nuestros asociados. REQUISITOS PREVALENTES: La Florida requiere documentos adicionales a personas renovando u obteniendo su licencia de conducir o tarjeta de identificación. · Formulario del IRS W-2 o 1099
· Carta de un albergue de desamparados, proveedor de servicios transicionales o casa de transito verificando la dirección residencial de dicha organización o entidad.

Prueba del número de Seguro Social tiene que ser proveída presentando uno de los siguientes:

REAL ID – INFORMACIÓN GENERAL: La Florida comenzara a emitir licencias en total cumpliendo de la Ley Real ID para el primero de enero del 2010. Esto significa que:
· Su actual licencia de conducir de la Florida o tarjeta de identificación continuará siendo válida como identificación para asuntos federales hasta el 1ro de diciembre del 2014 para personas nacidas después del 1ro de diciembre del 1964 y hasta el 1ro de diciembre del 2017 para todos los nacidos antes del 1ro de diciembre del 1964.
· Después del 2014 y el 2017, las agencias federales no aceptaran licencias de conducir o tarjetas de identificación si no cumplen los requisitos establecidos por Real ID. Information of interest about driver licenses and ID Cards
KEY INFORMATION FOR PARENTS ON TEEN DRIVING: The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles launched a parents section on its teen driving website www.flhsmv.gov/teens. The new and improved website now provides parents with useful information to help them teach their teens to become safe drivers. Florida’s graduated driver licensing program allows teens to obtain a learner’s permit at age 15, which restricts them to driving only under certain conditions with a licensed adult. Other restrictions apply to teens with an operator’s license until their 18th birthday.
To ensure that both parents and teens have a complete understanding of the law, an explanation of each phase of the graduated licensing program and the related restrictions can be found on the website. Certain behaviors are associated with the cause of the high fatality rate of teen drivers including: inexperience and immaturity combined with speed, alcohol consumption, not wearing seatbelts, distractions, drowsiness, and driving when visibility is limited. The website includes a driving guide and a driving log to track the 50 hours of practice that teens must record to obtain their intermediate operator’s license. The internal launch started on May 2009 with information to DHSMV and Tax Collector employees. The next phase of the campaign is directed ongoing at partner organizations across the state. Some of the groups include AAA, airports, airlines, rental car companies, and travel websites, the Florida Bar Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. The first two phases are designed to educate those who could potentially receive questions from the public. The final phase, Public Release, is scheduled to begin this month. The campaign will bring notice to the public through an interactive website, press releases, press conferences, public service announcements, mailings, paid media and other formats.
DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAY SAFETY & MOTOR VEHICLES FEE SCHEDULE: Beginning September 1, 2009, certain fees for driver license and motor vehicle services will be changing. These new base fees were established by the Florida Legislature as part of the state’s budget development process. A combination of vehicle information is used to determine registration fees. They are the registration use, license plate type and class code. The class code is determined by the vehicle weight, body type, vehicle type and registration use. To see a sample, click here.
Customers will be notified of the new fees that are applicable to them via the renewal reminders that they will receive in the mail or at their local offices. A list of the new fees for the most frequently used motorist services is provided below. I’m writing you to let you know about a fantastic event I’m involved with this year - Relay For Life - and see if you might be interested in coming along side me in this fight against cancer.I will be serving as the Honorary Chair of the Relay For Life at Miami Metrozoo, taking place on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the northeast parking lot entrance located at 12400 SW 152 Street in Miami. The event will begin at noon; the opening/survivor ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m. and the Luminaria ceremony at 8:30 p.m.Billy the Marlin and the Marlins’ Mermaids will be on location and will join me in this effort. The Relay For Life, developed by the American Cancer Society, is a fundraiser where teams of participants take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event.With cancer affecting one in every three people, the relay serves as a reminder of those currently fighting or who have lost their battles with cancer. Speaking from personal experience, I know cancer does not discriminate; it can affect everyone from all walks of life. The relay brings a message of hope that the disease will one day be eliminated. This event is something that the whole community should rally behind in celebration of the survivors and in support of finding a cure that can help the thousands of people diagnosed with cancer every year in our country.Relay For Life is a wonderful community event that raises money to combat this disease and to spread awareness about how we can protect ourselves from cancer. It’s a time of celebrating those who have battled the disease, remembering those who have died and a chance to fight back against a disease that takes too much from too many.Funds raised at Relay For Life will enable the American Cancer Society to support local services and resources for cancer patients and their families. NATIONAL RECOGNITION: The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ Emergency Contact Information system recently garnered national recognition as one of the top 50 most innovative government programs. The Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University today announced the 2009 Top 50 government innovations competing for the American Government Awards. More than 600 applicants competed for the honors, representing the work of city, county, state, federal and tribal government agencies. The DHSMV is a finalist for one of six awards to be announced in September.

DHSMV PARTNERS WITH AAA: To better serve Florida motorists the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has teamed up with AAA Auto Club South to offer Floridians the ability to easily renew a driver license, obtain a duplicate driver license, change a name or address on a driver license, get an identification card and register to vote. The first Driver License Service Desk is open to assist customers at the AAA Fort Myers branch and a second one just open in St. Petersburg. The Department has formed this partnership to provide driver license services potentially in ten AAA offices around the state. This cooperative agreement with AAA allows the department to expand driver license services at no cost. In the next six months, AAA will open two more Driver License Service Desks at its branch offices in Sarasota and Jacksonville.
DSHMV GARNERS 42 DAVIS PRODUCTIVITY AWARDS: The 2009 Davis Productivity Awards results are in, and DHSMV received 42 awards. After a challenge from Executive Director Electra Bustle last year for DHSMV to increase nominations in 2009, we more than doubled the amount of nominations we submitted and significantly increased the level of awards we received. Of the 42 nominations we submitted for the 2009 Davis Productivity Awards, all 42 were recognized, and four of the nominations received cash awards. The ideas and programs contain great innovations and cost savings by our members.
REAL ID – BASIC FACTS: Florida will begin issuing Real ID driver licenses and ID cards no later than January 1, 2010. This means that:
· Your current, unexpired, Florida driver license or ID card will continue to be valid as identification for federal purposes until December 1, 2014 for individuals born after December 1, 1964, and December 1, 2017 for everyone else.
· After the 2014 and 2017 dates, Federal agencies will no longer accept a driver license or ID card unless it is Real ID compliant. This means you will not be allowed to board commercial flights or enter federal facilities unless you have a Real ID compliant document.
· Florida already meets many of the Real ID requirements. We are on track to meet the remaining mandates and begin issuing Real ID compliant documents by January 1, 2010.

NEW REQUIREMENTS: Florida now requires additional documents for people renewing or obtaining their Florida driver license or identification card. Everyone must provide one proof of residential address; and one form of proof of social security number. The changes are required to bring Florida into compliance with the Real ID Act of 2005.
To renew or obtain a license or identification card, residents must now have one form of proof of residential address such as:
· Deed, mortgage, monthly mortgage statement, mortgage payment booklet or residential
rental/lease agreement
· Florida Voter Registration Card
· Florida Vehicle Registration or Title
· A utility hook up or work order dated within 60 days of the application
· W-2 form or 1099 form
· A letter from a homeless shelter, transitional service provider, or a half-way house
verifying that the customer resides at the shelter address

Proof of social security number, if issued, includes one of the following:
· Social Security card
· Tax return
· W-2 form
· Pay check stub
